Wine Summary

Since David Hohnen of the renowned Cape Mentelle in Western Australia launched his show stopping Cloudy Bay in the 1980s, wine drinkers have been in awe of its charm. It's impressively fresh and intense with an understated brilliance that sets it apart from more exuberant Sauvignons. And there's even more intensity in 2012 as yields were down by 25%.

The estate lies in Wairau Valley, Marlborough, at the northern tip of the South Island. It takes its name from the most easterly point of the valley that was named Cloudy Bay by Captain Cook in 1770. The region was flooded and the Wairau river was billowing clouds of silty water into the bay.

This greatly sough-after white has classic jump-from-the-glass aromas and flavours or guava and gooseberry, given a little extra richness in the middle from Cloudy Bay’s trademark splash of Semillon. Great solo or just the ticket with spicy seafood dishes.
