Beyond the Labels
Outstanding 96pt savoury red fruit Sangiovese with five Trophy wins, velvety Langhorne Creek Merlot, blackberry and spice Fleurieu Peninsula Shiraz, marvellous 93pt Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir, and Way & Cat’s Gold-medal Red Blend.
The 96pt Salena Estate Ink Series Sangiovese cleaned up at the Riverland Wine Show – winning Trophies for Best Alternative Wine, Best Other Red Blend, Best Single Vineyard, and Best Wine of Show! And that's just the beginning! Sangiovese is an Italian variety from the Tuscan region in northern Italy and has made itself comfortably at home in Australia's warmer regions. With wild herbs, cherries and violets all present on the nose, the palate is light with graceful structure finishing with clean acidity and soft tannins.
The term ‘Wayfaring’ means ‘to travel’, while ‘Catador’ means ‘taster’ in Spanish. Bring these together and you get a rough definition of what our roving wine buyers do each vintage – discover the best wines from the best regions to bring you a stunning final product. This eye catching label depicts South Australia’s state flower: Sturt’s Desert Pea. South Australia is famous for its big, full-flavoured reds – this one is no exception. Rich aromas of red fruits, blackcurrant, and toasty, spicy oak notes. The Way & Cat is robust and opulent at the same time, showcasing classic South Australian varietal flavours.
The Fleurieu Peninsula is a diverse and exciting coastal region of South Australia. The loose sandy soil and cooling maritime breezes are perfect for growing savoury, aromatic Shiraz with great fruit intensity. Made using traditional techniques, with the aim of expressing our unique microclimate, this is a fresh, lightly oaked Shiraz with a vibrant, generous mid-palate that finishes uninterrupted and long. A great 'food wine' in its youth and with careful cellaring it will mature well over the next 3-5 years.
Be Bold. Be Brave. Be Courageous. That’s the motto of Kings’ Creed in South Australia’s beautiful Adelaide Hills district. Their aim is to “craft small batch wines of quality with bold character.” The wines are made by the legendary Ben Riggs, so that’s a creed that will be easy to live up to. This vibrant Pinot Noir is indeed boldly flavoured, the quality Adelaide Hills fuit delivering silky cherry dlavours with plenty of depth.
Lake Alex is named after Langhorne Creek's Lake Alexandrina, whose cooling lake breeze helps maintain elegance and freshness in the wines. Merlot has long made an appearance in many of the best blends of the region, adding rich plum and fruit cake qualities. Merlot is not as in-your-face as Shiraz and Cabernet can be, it's far more plush and graceful. That's what makes the Lake Alex Merlot such a great food wine, and you can serve it on its own too.
One of our lovely team members, Sandra, came up with the concept for this label when we mentioned a classy new wine was on the way. The photograph was taken by her father of her stunningly beautiful mother Winsome, which they keep in an album referred to as The Notebook. This is the kind of wine you open on the verandah of a holiday house by the water somewhere with good food and great friends! Aromatic and approachable – everything you want in a tempting Tempranillo. Redcurrant and plum with a touch of savouriness, making it ideal with tapas.
