Wine Summary

Blackstrap is sourced from some of the finest family-owned vineyards in McLaren Vale, widely regarded as one of Australia's premier red wine growing regions. The low-yielding vines produce flavour-packed grapes, which in turn make the kind of intensely flavoured, brilliantly coloured wines for which the region is renowned. Made in the excellent 2021 vintage, Blackstrap Cabernet Sauvignon is as dark and smooth as blackstrap molasses, with all the rich, ripe, peppery dark fruit character to match. Decant an hour or so before serving, then swirl in big-bowled glasses for maximum enjoyment.

Wine Summary

Matured in American oak, the Black Duck Durif is full bodied and smooth with layers of spicy fruit. It's made by Sam Trimboli, whom many customers will know from his days at Warburn Estate, where he collected hundreds of awards for his legendary skills. During that time he developed an obsession for the obscure Durif, a “stunning little powerhouse grape that develops astounding complexity”, as he describes it. The Durif grapes for this wine come from a small vineyard that Sam helped establish in the 1980s. It’s now at peak maturity. In the 2021, he decided to add a small portion of punchy spice Petit Verdot for extra complexity and dark berry intensity. Perfect with char-grilled steak or strong cheeses, or as a warming glass solo.

The Great Southern wine region lies along the Southern Ocean on Western Australia’s south coast. Stretching 150 km (93 miles) north to south from Western Australia’s south coast and 100 km (62 miles) east to west, it is the largest wine-growing region in mainland Australia. “It’s the hidden gem of Australian wine,’’ says Paul Byron, who’s been making highly rated wines in Great Southern since launching his Byron & Harold label to considerable acclaim 12 years ago. Carefully selected, perfectly ripened parcels of Shiraz and Cabernet from the Limestone Coast were brought together in this fully loaded red. Loaded to the gunwales with an abundance of varietal character, including aromas of red and black fruits, herbs and spices that precede a finely textured, robust mid-palate which is the result of fine fruit quality and careful maturation. The palate finishes long with enough tannin to reward those who have the patience to park the wine in a cool cellar for a few more years. Get out the big glasses for this!

Wine Summary

A 'hart' is a term akin to stag, the name used for a male red deer. You can see The Hart proudly depicted on the front label of this beautiful 'limited release' Patronus Barossa Valley Pinot Noir. The Barossa might be known for its ripe, warming reds, but for those who know where to go, there are magical pockets of cool climate vineyards tucked between valleys and perched on hillsides. This is where winemaker Andrea Maxwell discovered the special parcel of Pinot Noir which made its way into The Hart Pinot Noir. The wine is light and fruity with aromas of green strawberry, raspberry and rhubarb. It is juicy yet soft and rounded with subtle spice and earthy notes. A fun and easy drinking red, especially when chilled 20 minutes before serving.
