<p> The Independent is a 50/50 blend of Shiraz and Mataro. The last two vintages picked up trophies at the Barossa Wine Show and the 2009 was the Best Value Red in Penguin’s annual Good Wine Guide. The just-released 2011 is all about savoury complexity, with fabulous colour, and a depth of black fruit, liquorice, mocha and spice flavours that only exceptionally maintained old-vines can produce. </p> <p> Regardless of his success, Kym Teusner remains independent of the big liquor chains and refuses to put his prices up. You wont find a better-priced Barossa red. This is a must for any dinner party! </p>
