At its best in Piedmont in northwest Italy, Barbera can produce thrilling wines of mouthfilling fruit, with an unmistakable 'sweet and sour' cherry tang. Wine writer Hugh Johnson says: "Good Barbera is plummy and astringent in just the right measure." Just what's delivered in this delicious red. Bric di Bersan in Piedmont has been owned by the Bersano family for many generations. It lies in the hilly Monferrato region, where rocky slopes force the vines to struggle to find water, resulting in lovely concentrated fruit. And vines have to put down deep roots so grapes take on subtle mineral qualities. Crafted by the award winning winemaker Gaetane Carron, this classic Italian red is perfect with fresh pasta, and also matches roast pork beautifully.
