Wine Summary
Yecla lies inland from Alicante in Spain's easternmost region, known as the Levante because here is where the sun rises first. Yecla has all the requisite conditions for quality wine production, namely elevation (400 to 700 metres above sea level), a continental climate, loam soils over limestone bedrock and a preponderance of old, high quality Monastrell vines. Dominio de Artiga is from a family-run winery founded as long ago as 1850, and it has just scooped Gold at the world's biggest wine competition. The estate's old vines dig deep into the stony soil in their thirst for moisture and pick up subtle mineral complexity in the process. Here, intensely concentrated dark Monastrell with wild herb complexity is tempered with a dash of spicy Cabernet. 18 months in oak has added even more spicy richness to this splendid Reserva, making it a great match for lamb.
