Beyond the Labels
Looking for a little excitement in your wine tasting? You’ve come to the right place here. This dazzling dozen is full of exciting varieties that will really surprise and delight. You’ve a tempting Tempranillo, a marvellous Merlot from the great John Quarisa, the dazzling RedHeads R’dotto Royale combining a range of delicious Italian varietals, pure Pinot perfection from Patronus in the Barossa Valley, and a power-packed Petite Sirah (aka Durif). Delicious!
In 1962 Alfred Liebich’s love of fishing led him from Barossa, where his family settled in 1852, to the Murray River. His ‘left bank’ vineyards produce plush Petite Sirah (aka Durif) brimming with blueberry, black cherry and spice. This debut vintage has already scooped Gold! "Dark, opaque red with ruby reflections. Generous nose, full of blackcurrant and black cherry aromas. On the palate, moderate tannins, freshness and crisp, clean fruit. Youthful and accessible." (International Challenge Gilbert & Gaillard).
Q Malbec. The Q stands for Quarisa. John Quarisa. He’s the man dubbed a "magician” by James Halliday because quite how he crafts such full flavoured, amazing value for money South Australian reds leaves some scratching their heads and others standing up in applause. Bright intense red with purple hues. Flavours of blueberries, also classic Malbec mulberry, red cherries and notes of cedar; cocoa and wafts of violets too. Generous and sensual, and through its structure remains rich and lush. Along with barbecues, Malbec teams up a treat with bold summery dishes.
RedHeads is an exclusive winemaking studio home to dynamic winemakers. Here, they’re able to craft their own wines their own way – where the only bottom line is top quality in the glass! This gorgeous, rich red is named after Venice's 18th century gambling house, R'dotto. It's RedHeads' biggest gamble to date! Five Italian stars grown by top growers combine in this seductive, velvety wine that will win you over, hands down.
A luscious Gold-medal Merlot from the great John Quarisa. It's smooth and complex, with velvety black forest fruits and a juicy plummy note. The palate is silky and lovely. It’s a brilliant partner to pan-fried lamb cutlets. John Quarisa’s lovely Caravan Petite Sirah has become a cult-classic with our customers. But will his velvety Merlot knock the Petite Sirah off its perch?
A 'hart' is a term akin to stag, the name used for a male red deer. You can see The Hart proudly depicted on the front label of this beautiful 'limited release' Patronus Barossa Valley Pinot Noir. The Barossa might be known for its ripe, warming reds, but for those who know where to go, there are magical pockets of cool climate vineyards tucked between valleys and perched on hillsides. This is where winemaker Andrea Maxwell discovered the special parcel of Pinot Noir which made its way into The Hart Pinot Noir. The wine is light and fruity with aromas of green strawberry, raspberry and rhubarb. It is juicy yet soft and rounded with subtle spice and earthy notes – and it's considerable charmshave already won it a Gold. A fun and easy drinking red, especially when chilled 20 minutes before serving.
One of our lovely team members, Sandra, came up with the concept for this label when we mentioned a classy new wine was on the way. The photograph was taken by her father of her stunningly beautiful mother Winsome, which they keep in an album referred to as The Notebook. This is the kind of wine you open on the verandah of a holiday house by the water somewhere with good food and great friends! Aromatic and approachable – everything you want in a tempting Tempranillo. Redcurrant and plum with a touch of savouriness, making it ideal with tapas.
