Beyond the Labels

Good Pinot is fickle to grow, tricky to make, and expensive to produce – they don’t call it the ‘heartbreak grape’ for nothing! But when it’s good, it’s very very good … and once you’ve been smitten by its tantalising flavours, it doesn’t seem outrageous to pay $30 or $40 a bottle for this luxury wine. Yet here, you can secure a whole case of fabulous Pinot Noirs from WA, Tasmania, the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley and more, for a mere $19.99 a bottle. Be quick for this!

Wine Summary
With viticulture in their historical veins, brothers Vic, John, Kon and Chris banded together in 1996 to create their dream vineyard as a legacy to their late father, Jim Peos, and late grandfather, P.Y. Peos. The Four Kings range is named after the four Peos brothers. This is rich, plush Pinot Noir with red currants, plums and raspberries driving the flavour profile. Fleshy fruit on the palate flecked with hints of mushroom and cardamon spice, with clean acid pushing to a lingering finish and a tangy exclamation point at the end. Matured in new and old French oak. Dangerously easy to drink.

Wine Summary
For the Marauding Vintners, wine is not a commodity! For these guys, it’s where art and nature merge in an expression of people, place and time. They know where real wine is found, often well off the beaten track, and they devote time to tracking down the genuine characters. Meet the distinguished, enigmatic Mr. Noir. Despite rumours of a noble French background, you detect no trace of an accent nowadays. Once, mystery hung about him. A solitary, often elusive presence, held in reverence by a fiercely devoted band of followers. Their loyalty remains, their numbers have grown, but Mr. Noir now moves freely from place to place. Though still a singular character, the haunting mystique has evolved into bright charm, evident class – and the alluring ability to light up any room and occasion.

Be Bold. Be Brave. Be Courageous. That’s the motto of Kings’ Creed in South Australia’s beautiful Adelaide Hills district. Their aim is to “craft small batch wines of quality with bold character.” The wines are made by the legendary Ben Riggs, so that’s a creed that will be easy to live up to. This vibrant Pinot Noir is indeed boldly flavoured, the quality Adelaide Hills fuit delivering silky cherry dlavours with plenty of depth.

Wine Summary
An old-world style of Pinot Noir where neither fruit sweetness nor savoury characters dominate but rather combine to create a smooth, supple drinking experience. It's from the cool-climate heights of the Adelaide Hills, crafted by the team at Ulithorne. You’ll find cherry and raspberry flavours woven together with smoked meats, almonds, cloves and a hint of expresso coffee. Lightly bodied with lovely texture. 95pt from Wine Orbit. "… savvily crafted… satisfying" says Ned Goodwin MW in the Halliday Wine Companion. Sam Kim, Wine Orbit is effusive in praise: "This is wonderfully fruited and gorgeously styled, showing dark plum, spiced cherry, clove, roasted nut and dark mushroom characters on the nose, followed by a concentrated palate that's both powerful and supple. Beautifully textured and persistent to an impressively long silky finish".

Wine Summary
In the same way as the Common Heath is a quintessential expression of Victoria's flora, this 2022 release Pinot Noir combines fine parcels of wine, individually sourced from various sites across Victoria. Pretty and lifted with beautiful red fruits; strawberry and raspberry with hints of cherry cola. The palate is soft and smooth with fruitiness flowing through. Soft velvety tannins to finish. A fine match with chicken in red wine, spicy roasted vegetables, with feta and couscous or sipped solo. Excellent value Pinot!

Wine Summary
A 'hart' is a term akin to stag, the name used for a male red deer. You can see The Hart proudly depicted on the front label of this beautiful 'limited release' Patronus Barossa Valley Pinot Noir. The Barossa might be known for its ripe, warming reds, but for those who know where to go, there are magical pockets of cool climate vineyards tucked between valleys and perched on hillsides. This is where winemaker Andrea Maxwell discovered the special parcel of Pinot Noir which made its way into The Hart Pinot Noir. The wine is light and fruity with aromas of green strawberry, raspberry and rhubarb. It is juicy yet soft and rounded with subtle spice and earthy notes. A fun and easy drinking red, especially when chilled 20 minutes before serving.
