Beyond the Labels
Twelve tasty drops from around Australia, including a five-time Trophy champion Sangiovese, silky Tempranillo, a mouthwatering McLaren Vale White Blend, and strawberry-fresh Rosé from Margaret River and Barossa.
The Angaston Road Growers range is all about honouring the often unsung heroes of the wine world, the growers. It is their intimate knowledge of the local terroir, the changes of season, and the varietals they tend to that ensure the special parcels of fruit that make it to the winery are in tip-top form to make quality wines like this vibrantly pink Rosé. The wine recognises Darren Heidenreich of Possum Creek Vineyards in Angaston, Barossa Valley. And when it came to finding the best selection of Shiraz grapes for this new Rosé, the Angaston Road winemakers knew instantly to reach out to Darren. The single vineyard fruit is crushed and soaked on skins for two hours to extract a lovely pink colour. It's lightly pressed, cold settled and fermented in stainless steel tanks to retain fresh aromas and flavours throughout. Enjoy a fruity nose of strawberry and orange, while flavours of mixed berries, lightly spiced red cherry and zingy citrus burst in your mouth. Grown, crafted and bottled in the Barossa using local glass, capsules and 100% recycled paper labels. Vegan friendly.
The 96pt Salena Estate Ink Series Sangiovese cleaned up at the Riverland Wine Show – winning Trophies for Best Alternative Wine, Best Other Red Blend, Best Single Vineyard, and Best Wine of Show! And that's just the beginning! Sangiovese is an Italian variety from the Tuscan region in northern Italy and has made itself comfortably at home in Australia's warmer regions. With wild herbs, cherries and violets all present on the nose, the palate is light with graceful structure finishing with clean acidity and soft tannins.
Five Tales is the name of the ongoing story of the Credaro Family Estate. It’s all about One Family that traces its history through Two Countries, and the legacy that was started by Three Italians, Olympio, Cesare and Maria. Now the family is in its Fourth Generation and tends to Five Vineyards in WA’s south-west. Aromas of fresh summer berries with a hint of lifted rosehip. Medium-bodied with notes of crisp raspberry and strawberry, with a satisfying savoury finish. Sam Kim from Wine Orbit gives it 93pts, "Fabulously appealing on the nose with sweet raspberry, apple, apricot and subtle flinty notes, leading to a linear palate that's elegant and lively. Crisp-dry and delightfully drinkable".
As you can imagine, the folk who live on Strout Road have heard a lot of trout jokes. If you can’t beat them, join them, say the Strout Rd Vintners. They may only be a small outfit, but they’re certainly making a big splash with their luscious, mouthfilling wines, like this one here. It's a truly mouthwatering blend that combines prime fruit from top vineyards in McLaren Vale to make a deliciously layered and complex white. Look forward to layers of citrus, cooking spice and stone fruit on the nose with notes of brioche. On the palate enjoy ripe peach, lemon and balancing oak. It’s a treat with grilled white fish.
Introducing Miss Grigio from the Marauding Vintners... she's packing some serious fruit! If you like rich, fragrant and incredibly interesting whites, then you’re going to adore this one. Pick your way through honeysuckle and pear before finding yourself at a delicate finish that’s stimulating and lengthy. We suggest spending some quality time with Miss Grigio, she's the perfect partner over a great long lunch and such good company top sit and relax with as the sun sets.
One of our lovely team members, Sandra, came up with the concept for this label when we mentioned a classy new wine was on the way. The photograph was taken by her father of her stunningly beautiful mother Winsome, which they keep in an album referred to as The Notebook. This is the kind of wine you open on the verandah of a holiday house by the water somewhere with good food and great friends! Aromatic and approachable – everything you want in a tempting Tempranillo. Redcurrant and plum with a touch of savouriness, making it ideal with tapas.
