Beyond the Labels

As the Halliday Wine Companion says, Jeff and Vicky Dewar’s wines offer “exceptional value for money.” Halliday first listed Willow Bridge among his ‘Dark Horse Wineries of 2013’. They went on to feature in ‘Best Wineries of 2014’ and now they carry the coveted 5 Red star rating. An impressive trajectory! Taste their dazzlingly crisp Dragonfly Sauvignon Semillon, spice-filled ‘Dragonfly’ Shiraz and dark, velvety ‘Dragonfly’ Cabernet Merlot here.

Wine Summary
Estate grown on a spectacular hillside vineyard in the Ferguson Valley of the Geographe wine region. The fruit for this immaculate Dragonfly is sourced from 1998 plantings on 5 Red Star-rated Willow Bridge's north-facing Forrest, Jarrah and Blinman blocks. Dragonfly Shiraz is an expression of the juicy and generous varietal blackberry and blueberry fruits they attain in the Ferguson Valley, complemented by fine tannin and supporting French oak.

Wine Summary
The Dragonfly Cabernet Merlot is an expression of the deep dark fruit characters attained from the Ferguson region, rich and smooth with lashings of chocolate. The vineyard is 25km from the coast as the crow flies, and receives the cooling afternoon sea breeze during summer. At an elevation between 230 and 280 meters, the estate is generally two degrees or more cooler than the coastal plain, with ripening times similar to the cool southern parts of the neighbouring Margaret River wine region. Aromas of oregano, red capsicum, cassis, plum and anise. Dark fruits define the palate; with smoked paprika and light hints of eucalypt in the background. This is soft and juicy, rounded and soft.
