Wine Summary
While many of Italy’s famed red grapes (such as Sangiovese or Nebbiolo) are noted for high acidity, the Montepulciano grape gives a soft, juicy and approachable wine, even when young. It’s exactly the style enjoyed on a regular basis by the locals. Farinelli is made from hand picked, richly concentrated grapes grown on 30 to 40 year old vines high in the Abruzzo hills. It’s declassified, so doesn't enjoy official DOC status... and so although it can’t be labelled Montepulciano d’Abruzzo (you'll note on the label that it's a simple ‘Vino Rosso’) we think you'll be thrilled with what's in the glass. We certainly are! And we have some serious Montepulciano fans here, you can be sure of that. Deep purple in colour, the nose has spiced damson, juicy plum, black cherry and raspberry aromas. The palate is silky smooth and velvety with lovely fine tannins. Food match? Try it with some arrosticini Abruzzesi (grilled lamb skewers) or marinated lamb cutlets, hot off the barbecue.
