The Wine
Salvatore Lento first starting investing in Calabria’s forgotten vineyards in the 1960s. He has done so much work for the region’s revival that he’s been awarded many lifetime achievement awards. He has passed on his passion for authenticity to his daughters Manuela and Danila. A few years back they started researching the ancient grapes of the region and discovered almost extinct Magliocco. They’ve planted it in a very special vineyard, at 500 metres altitude and in the narrowest part of Calabria – it looks out over the Tyrrhenian and Ionian Seas. Its rocky soils and terroir seem to suit this variety perfectly. Hand harvested Magliocco and Merlot, gently fermented and aged for six months in oak casks, has created this rich yet elegant red.
