The Wine
This wine is named for Cid Campeador, a Spanish mercenary who fought for the Catholics as well as the Moors. His victories have made him a hero in Spain and his statues stand in many Spanish cities. The vineyards for El Campeador are located in Ontur, between Albacete and Murcia, at an altitude from 650 to 900 m above sea level. Hand harvesting starts in October, and is followed by alcoholic and malolactic fermentations in stainless steel tanks so as to preserve the fruitiness. The result is this vibrant wine, bursting with flavour and colour. Ripe black fruit and Mediterranean spices on the nose. Very smooth on the palate, with some black fruit again, mingled with vanilla and smoked spices.
