5 Red Star Delatite, in Victoria’s High Country, has long been a cult favourite of lovers of textural, elegant, cool climate wines. Here, they've headed to another cool climate star in Victoria's wine region repertoire to make a superb Yarra Valley Pinot – with spectacular results. The fruit comes from two blocks at Coombe Farm in the heart of the Yarra. Made up of three classic Pinot noir clones (114, 115, and MV6), the grapes were picked in mid-February (earliest ever) and the must wild fermented in small batches before being transferred to a mix of old and new French barriques. It boasts black cherry, black plum and spice flavours, with sultry, smoky oak smoothing out the palate. The tannins are firm and fine, with a silky sensation. A top treat with spicy duck pancakes.
