The Wine

Château Ramage La Batisse is a remarkable Cru Bourgeois Haut-Médoc, situated not far from First Growth Châteaux Lafite and Mouton Rothschild. Our Bordeaux Buyer Jean-Marc Sauboua has known the family for years and they always give him first refusal on their latest releases. A bonus for us all because the family hold back stock of vintages for years, only parting with them when they’re ready to enjoy.

2014 was a testing vintage with low temperatures and wet weather, but a fine autumn resulted in a late harvest and wines of high quality, yet slow to develop. This is a classically styled claret, with tannins that have softened to reveal a delicious, mellow Bordeaux. For best results stand the bottle upright a few hours in case of sediment and ideally decant.

As John Lehmann writes in Th Australian: "Takes a few moments to open up, but the complexity that comes with age is very quickly evident. There are floral notes of lavender, some creamy cassis and pan juices on the nose, then the palate has so many layers: plum and cassis upfront but segueing into secondary characters of leather and earth in a long finish." 12.5% alc.
