Unashamedly old school, 95pt McLaren Vale Shiraz with "Plush mouthfeel with excellent balance" (John Lehmann, The Weekend Australian Magazine) with considerable critical acclaim. from the Curtis family, who trace their history back to 1499!
Paolo Curtis was appointed by Cardinal de Medici to administer Papal lands in the area around Cervaro. (The name Curtis is believed to derive from Curtius, a noble and wealthy Roman Empire family.) The family came to Australia in 1953, and has been growing grapes and making wine in McLaren Vale since 1973.
"Comes from 60-year-old McLaren Vale vines in this excellent year. Smooth, so smooth. Yet immense concentration and intensity is driving a powerful wine. The nose reveals a combination of vanillin oak and dark cherry with spicy plum and a dollop of dark chocolate." (Ray Jordan). "...simply enjoying a cracking glass of red from this brilliant vintage should be enough. Crimson/magenta in hue, the nose gives us notes of chocolate, vanilla, mocha, coffee beans, spices, bay leaves and licorice... Excellent length, fine tannins and juicy acidity tie up a most pleasing package. 94pts" (Ken Gargett, WinePilot).
