The Wine

With four Golds, a Double Gold among them, and several high point scores, Elena Brooks has triumphed again. As Elena explained to John Lehmann in The Australian “I've always found that the Barossa (style), because of its fruit weight at the front and a lot of beautiful natural tannins at the back, it can leave a hollow middle,… this is where a little bit of American oak goes a long way. This is my little signature that I do. I never ever just have French oak with the Barossa, because just a touch of American oak in the middle goes a long, long way, it gives me chocolate flavours as well. The entire wine just feels generous - polished and generous - and that's really good Barossa for me.”

"One deep sniff tells you Elena is on the money about “really good Barossa”, the nose greeting you with rich plum, baking spice and vanilla and some liquorice. The palate has a burst of sweet plum with another hint of liquorice, and it’s all perfectly rich, full bodied and plush with some fine, dusty tannins but a healthy streak of underlying acidity." (John Lehmann, The Australian).

Dave Brookes The Halliday Wine Companion agrees, finding it “Packed full of plush plummy fruits set on a bed of spice with hints of sage, licorice, dark chocolate, olive tapenade, violets and earth. There is an unmistakable 'Barossaness' to this wine.. 91pts”
