A 94pt Great Value vintage for this distinctive white with a great back story. It’s made from a grape Peter Barry brought to the Clare from Greece. It's wowed critics and customers ever since. Don't miss trying it.
In August 2006, while on holiday in Santorini, Greece with his wife Sue, Peter Barry tried his first glass of Assyrtiko. Fresh, crisp and delicious he knew this Greek variety would thrive back in Australia, where it was not only not grown, but totally unknown. He brought some back to the Clare Valley and in 2012 planted it “at our Lodge Hill Vineyard, a special and unique site treasured by my family and suited to this variety.” Since its first vintage it’s won high points aplenty and rave reviews.
“A shag on a rock for a variety and producer in Australia, but jeez, the incremental excellence year-on-year suggests no resting on laurels. It's a brilliant, textural white wine here, flamboyant with jasmine florals, lime, sea spray, faint cashew nut savouriness, pink grapefruit, a thread of aniseed and dashes of salt bush. Gently chalky texture, good extension of flavour, refreshing, too. Very good. 94pts. Great Value”. (Mike Bennie, The Halliday Wine Companion).
