Crack open a super-refreshing WA Riesling from Mike Kerigan (winemaker at Hay Shed Hill) from Great Southern's Mt Barker, with scores of 92and 93pts.
“Fruit off Block 6, Langton vineyard 50+ years old. Of course you’d ask for another glass as the first went down a treat. Always refreshing and lively with its spring blossom fragrance, lemon-lime flavour, all juicy and tangy with snips of fresh herbs. It’s quite tight, almost lean on the palate, although in time it will garner more complexity as today, in its youth, it’s led by racy acidity. 93pts. Great Value.”(Jane Faulkner, The Halliday Wine Companion).
“An intense and lively riesling sourced from old vines on the Langton vineyard just on the edge of Mount Barker. Spicy aromas over a mix of lemon pith and green apple characters immediately engage. The palate is pure and lively with plenty of racy flavours building to a long finish. It was a hot season, but the cooler southern vineyards seemed to manage pretty well. 92pts”. (Ray Jordan).
Mike Kerrigan, former winemaker at Howard Park, acquired Hay Shed Hill in late 2006 (with co-ownership by the West Cape Howe syndicate).
