The Wine
"A wall of Grange tannins hold back its immense force, as finely engineered as ever. The finish holds motionless for minutes, with a stature and presence possessed only by Grange, yet at every moment upholding statuesque poise, integrity, even tang in this cooler season." (Tyson Stelzer, Halliday Wine Companion)
Penfolds Grange is arguably Australia's most celebrated wine and is officially listed as a Heritage Icon of South Australia. Crafted using fully ripe, intensely flavoured and structured Shiraz grapes from premium plots in Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale, it's a charming red laden with fruit. Cherished Grange winemaker, Peter Gago, matured this iconic wine for 18 months in 100% new American oak, lending a deep seam of dark chocolate and toasted vanilla. Every vintage Penfolds Grange receives sky-high scores from the critics. In its 70th anniversary, the 2017 performed superbly receiving a perfect 20 from Richard Hemming (MW), a near perfect 98 from the Wine Spectator and 97 from critic James Halliday. Certainly a wine to squirrel away!
