Willem the Silent hails from the Vaucluse, a southern Rhône wine region just on the edge of Provence. Its extensive vineyards nurture an array of native grapes like Grenache, Syrah and Carignan, that make ripe, warming, fruit-laden red wines.
It may not be well known but the Vaucluse is home to such famous wine villages as Gigondas, Vacqueyras and Châteauneuf-du-Pape. And it’s lucky enough to share the same climate and have similar soils too. When it comes to great-value reds to rival the famous names of the Southern Rhône, the Vaucluse is hard to beat.
That’s especially true of Willem the Silent, made by award-winning Châteauneuf-du-Pape winemaker Thierry Ferlay. Thierry has won scores of Gold medals and is the man behind bestselling Prince de Courthézon Côtes du Rhône and Châteauneuf.
